We are so proud to be a part of the rich history of Detroit and belong to such an amazing community. Each year we partner with a number of organizations and sponsor local events to help where we can.
Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month
March is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month, and for the past two years Better Made has partnered with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to spread awareness and raise funds. Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system, and there is currently no cure. Symptoms vary from person to person and range from numbness and tingling, to mobility challenges, blindness, and paralysis. An estimated 1 million people live with MS in the United States. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, and it affects women three times more than men.
To help fund research and the development of possible cures, Better Made donates a portion of the proceeds from the sale of various potato chip and pork rind items throughout the month of March. We look forward to many more years of partnership with the MS Society! Keep an eye out for the orange MS Awareness Displays every March.
Metro Detroit Youth Day
Every year Metro Detroit Youth Day (MDYD) takes place on Belle Isle. It’s a day for thousands of kids from Detroit and the surrounding areas to gather, play games, have fun, and engage in constructive activities. MDYD started in 1980 and has grown to include over 36,000 kids at the event every summer. We think it’s important to invest in our youth, so each year we donate snacks to the event to ensure the kids have an awesome experience, complete with awesome snacks!
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and for the past two years we have partnered with University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital to support their Block Out Cancer campaign. In the US, 43 children are diagnosed with cancer every day, and only 4% of federal funding for cancer research is directed at solving cancers that impact our children. To help fund life-saving research and “block out cancer,” a portion of proceeds from the sale of various potato chip and pork rind items go to the Block Out Cancer campaign. We are proud to support such a worthy cause. Look for the Block Out Cancer displays throughout stores in Michigan every September.
COVID-19 Frontline Support
COVID-19 continues to impact our lives and communities in a way no one could have ever expected or imagined. We wanted to show our support for the frontline workers by spreading some Better Made cheer. We visited many of the surrounding hospitals, fire stations, and police stations and donated snacks to the hospital staff, firemen, and police officers. We sincerely appreciate everything they have done and continue to do to. Thank you, frontline workers!
The American Red Cross
In May of 2020, the Edenville and Sanford dams collapsed and flooded Midland, MI. 10,000 residents were told to evacuate, and a state of emergency was declared. The American Red Cross jumped in and provided shelter for thousands of displaced families while their city streets, businesses, and homes flooded. Better Made teamed up with the American Red cross to provide meals and some relief and comfort at an incredibly tough time.
