MARCH WINNER
DARREL SHEPHERD FROM SOUTH LAKE HIGH SCHOOL IS THE MARCH 2017 BETTER MADE SNACK FOODS' TEACHER OF THE MONTH
* This food and culinary arts instructor has a winning recipe for his students
ST. CLAIR SHORES, MI - Holly Salome is a senior at South Lake High School and loves to cook and bake. This dovetails perfectly with Chef Darrel Shepherd, the Culinary and Food instructor at South Lake. Holly is a student of Shepherd's and has learned a lot about many styles of cooking. Holly submitted a nice letter about Shepherd, and for that, he has been selected as Better Made's Teacher of the Month for March 2017 and will receive a sampler box containing 15 bags of different delicious Better Made products. Holly writes:
"Chef Darrel Shepherd is my Food and Culinary Arts teacher at South Lake High School. He motivates students by keeping them actively engaged in learning. Chef Shepherd brings students into the school's restaurant, South Lake Bistro, and guides them through planning and creation of meal menus. Students then prepare and cook the menu items under the direction of Chef Shepherd. He also provides endless opportunities for community service hours, a requirement for students to graduate. He also participates in events such as Empty Bowls at Assumption Church and provides Thanksgiving meals for those less fortunate in downtown Detroit."
