* Ed taught his son, Steve, to work hard for what he wanted in life
VINE GROVE, KY – Steve Leverenz submitted a wonderful essay about his father, Ed, on how he taught him the value of hard work and how that lesson helped him survive and even excel in life. Steve’s entry has been chosen as the 2023 Better Made Snack Foods Father of the Year contest winner. We thank Steve for his entry and here is his is what he submitted:
My dad, Ed Leverenz, of Port Huron, passed away in January. He should be father of the year. My dad worked two jobs his whole life and taught me to work for what I wanted. He worked for Ford Motor Company for over 40 years and was proud of what he did and where he was from, and instilled pride in his family. He didn’t take a lot of time for himself, but he took time to take us camping and fishing every summer. When he got older and retired, he had time to watch the Tigers play and enjoyed it, but had never been to a game. The attached picture is my dad at his first and only game. I wish I could have taken him to more games before he passed. I made a career of the military and thanked my dad many times for giving me the tools I needed to survive and excel. Whether he is chosen or not, many people learned a lot from my dad and everything he stood for. He was the epitome of “Better Made”.
